News from Vicki

25 March 2009

Our autumn has turned into summer again with the days being quite warm, and the nights mild. So mares are still cycling, and Baby Belle has now been covered, and if that happens it will be the world's cutest foal if it has the front end of it's mum or dad. Balance, my only Errol foal from last year continues to be beautiful, and is now weaned from her mother Cliche, who has been sold back in foal to Errol to her original owners, Ashley and Natae Jankowski. Bad news for me though is that Irish is out of work for 3 months. After being such a star at the George Morris Clinic (George even rode him, and liked him!), I was full of hope that we were going to have a good season. But he went mysteriously lame one day a couple of weeks ago while I was working him in the paddock, and after extensive examinations he is diagnosed with deep flexor tendon problems, and has to have a holiday. Bugger! So now down to one horse for Sydney Royal, my smallest team for a million years! On the upside, Team Roycroft had a great show at Castle Hill, with Cougar and Willy jumping well, but the kids were the stars, with Sophie winning both the Junior Equitation and the 1.20 Young Rider class on Levi, and Lee and Puzzle winning the 1m Young Rider, and 2nd in the 1.10 Young Rider, to give her the overall Young Rider title, and her first ever rug! So she was pretty chuffed. Jessie Whybro and Sarah Meale had good placings in their classes, and Carrie and Tarryn , and Sara with Sam, Mich and Shrek respectively all showed improvement with great rounds that are developing their all quite recent partnerships. Castle Hill is run on one of the best arenas footing wise in the country, and thanks to the efforts of Mark Atkins and Bob and Joyce Brooks, had good NSW Jumping Council gear, and great tracks all weekend designed by Mark. Pity it clashed with the tiny little show in New Zealand, the one that ONLY had NZ750,000 on the Grand Prix! And great to see an Aussie take it out, with the super cool rider Pete Mc Mahon win clearly with the only double clear on his super hot mare KS Genoa. This weekend sees us at Camden Show on Friday, then Muswellbrook, always a super country show, on Saturday...
